Here’s one similar to one that was asked before, but let’s give it a go anyway.

Years ago, my local town had a vibrant Jaycee chapter. We were one of the best in the state, and received many awards. Over time, though, the same people held all the leadership positions and finally became weary. The chapter ultimately died. I have noticed that same phenomenon in other organizations. And the same thing was happening in Philip. Now, though, there are a number of new leaders that have emerged. And it is more than the old cadre stepping aside. It is new people who have discovered that they have talent and a willingness to lead and express ideas. They also see the importance of continuing a successful leadership tradition.

I could personally name a number of people that have stepped forward, but that is not necessary. Suffice it to say that one of the best successes of Horizons is the establishment of a new group of leaders.

Our leadership has expanded because leaders of many community organizations are ready for a break. If someone doesn’t step up then we lose several great and helpful organizations. I’m just glad people have been willing to take that step.

It is so good to see the depth of leadership in Philip. It is indeed a shining example of the possibilities to other communities both large and small.

Thanks to Britni for giving us all an opportunity to reflect on that capacity!

In any town there are a certain number of individuals who get called on repeatedly to be leaders. Knowing this people are hesitant to step forward for fear of being swamped with leadership duties. In the last few months numerous individuals have gained the courage, due in part to seeing dozens of others stepping forward and all have become wonderful leaders for our community to rely upon. Hopefully this will continue so everybody’s shoulders carry the load and not just a few.

The Horizons project has helped expand leadership in the community by leaps and bounds. Through study circles and facilitator trainings many people have become leaders that may not have had the knowledge and/or did not know they were capable of playing a leadership role. I think we have a lot of natural leaders in this community who were unaware of what they could contribute and what could be accomplished when they all came together to achieve a common goal. The progress we have made in the past 18 months to reduce poverty and improve the community has been awesome. It will be exciting to see how much more progress we will make in the next 18 months.

  6. Monna Van Lint Says:

Many new faces have emerged thanks to the Horizon’s project. It seems to have motivated and enabled many people, who I’m sure were already leaders in their own right, to actually step to the forefront and become more confident and more empowered to lead. Many thanks go out to these individuals. It is great to watch the changes taking place because they are leaders in their own right. The old is meshing with the new in great and wonderful ways and the community and citizens are the beneficiaries of these cooperative efforts.

  7. Tanya McIlravy Says:

The project has given people who had ideas and desires to particpate ‘permission’ to do so. I think the perception of local leadership being a closed group has changed. However, I am concerned that things may cycle back around and I hope instead we can keep the momentum and truly make changes in perceptions and focus of all involved. I hope while we celebrate what we have, that we also strive to improve, add more, change, grow etc. and not limit ourselves to only leading in the same directions we’ve been going.

  8. Brittany Smith Says:

The leadership plenty training has given so many of us the tools to be in the leadership role. More people are now more willing to serve in that capacity as it helped in identifying our strengths and weaknesses. With that, the previous leaders are now able to take a break and let some new leaders evolve.
