HAAKON/JACKSON COUNTY FAIR

The Haakon/Jackson County Fair will be held in Philip on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - July 30th - August 1st  - at the Fairgrounds. 

Exhibitors for the Open Class can bring their exhibits to the Legion Hall between 4:30 to 700pm on Thursday, the 30th.  Divisions include:  Flowers, Horticulture, Herbs, Fruit, Clothing, Needlework, Food Preservation, Baked Goods, Candy, Honey Products, Eggs, Arts & Crafts, Photography/Video, Graphic Design, Computer Technology and Writing. 

There is no entrance fee and premiums will be awarded.  The Clara Roseth Award will be given to the entrant with the most ribbon points.  

The Talent Show will be held August 1st in the Legion Hall at 7:00pm.  The contest is open to individuals and groups in three divisions:  13 & under, 13 to 19, and 19 & older.  Winner of the 13 to 19 age division is eligible to participate in the State Talent Show in Mitchell.  Contestants can enter in vocals, musical instruments, dance or read an original piece of poetry or dramatic writing. 

Cash prizes will be given to the winners.  Remember, last year’s 13 to 19 winner, Keenie Word, won the state tournament.

Pen of 3 Show will be held on Saturday, August 1st, at 2:00pm at the Fairgrounds.  Pen of 3 must consist of three (3) bred yearling heifers.  These heifers musst be raised and owned by the individual entering the contest.  Cattle may be entered starting at 11:00am until 1:45pm.  Entries accepted until show time.  Prizes will be awarded.

Philip Drama Group performs female version of “The Odd Couple”

The Drama Group presented the play to good crowds on Friday, Saturday,

& Sunday, June 5th, 6th, & 7th at the Fine Arts Gym.  The group did a great

job getting the audience to laugh at the hysterics that went on on stage!

Quad County Relay For Life

A moving ceremony and all-evening celebration honored cancer survivors and remembered those who’ve gone before us.  In our promise to fight back, our quad county area pulled together to raise over $50,000 to aid in the fight for a cure.
